Real & Responsible

Reel icons make an outstanding impact when they decide to be real and responsible.

A gentle reminder for the hands that litter, and thankful  to those who clear litter as well.

The man who clears litter created by you is exactly a man like us.

Feel responsible and keep your surroundings clean. “There were some who dumped trash right in front of us, some laughed at us, some admired us and many joined to help”, this is how Sandhya puts forward her experience of teaming up with Dipesh Tank and a few others who felt responsible to keep the adjoining beaches clean at Juhu.

Not bothered about media attention, not even a motivational talk from a Guru, these were the self-motivated people who decided to spend their few hours on a Sunday to clean one of the most popular seafronts of Mumbai and make them free of stink and muck they accumulate every day.

What started as a facebook post by Sandhya, has now become a pioneering citizen based initiatives involved in regular beach cleanings and workshops across schools and other institutions.

More popular as Beach o Beach, was not a token day long endeavor but a mission that is an interesting step in creating awareness among civic population to feel sensitized about feeling more responsible as a citizen.

We live in our daily struggles and the nuances of personal lives, where we do not have time to look into the larger aspects of societal responsibilities. We as Indians, either complain or live through the escapist fantasies of reel world only to wait for someone like the reel hero arrive to sort out the real world. While we have Bollywood celebrities and stars associating themselves in various charities, on and off the media, it is difficult to ignore the motives and incentives which generate the PR. In such a scenario, an initiative like beach o beach sparkles with its honesty.

Kalki Koechin is another example of a celebrity with clarity and conscience. She has been vocal about the issues ranging from her worldwide sensation video,  IT’S YOUR FAULT, WOMEN, which was a statement against callous attitude and excuses of society towards sexual abuse of women, to her candid admittance about the child abuse and her upright stance on LGBT community.

Nana Patekar, along with Makrand Asapure, took the initiative to support the drought affected farmers of Marathwada and Vidharbha through personal intervention and his organization NAAM Foundation.

This responsible behavior, when enacted by the celebrities, helps in doubling the outcome, as the public instantly endorses and practices the ideas and agendas which these stars stand up for. In this situation, it increases their responsibility as well as power to change the attitude of people towards subjects that need attention and correction. After all it is the public that has made them a public figure, to use their image for a positive change is welcome step.
